About

My career as a fiber artist began at a very early age. Enchanted by my mothers knitting and crocheting I ‘borrowed’ her yarn and needles and taught myself hiding in my closet. As a teen I took sewing classes and began to make some of my own clothing. The idea that I could create something unique and fashionable was very exciting. As an adult I combined these two loves and added a third, fiber dyeing.

My philosophy in my clothing is to focus on creating interesting cloth. The handwoven pieces are created using between 5 and 15 different yarns to make the base of the fabric. This gives the cloth a subtle texture using thick/thin, shiny/dull, and bumpy/smooth yarns. the dyed cloth is made with the same philosophy – instead of dyeing to one color, I layer many different colors. Some of my pieces have been dyed up to 4 times. While they may at first glance seem to be ‘tie-dyed’, they are created utilizing and ancient Japanese technique known as ‘shibori’ – a more sophisticated method.

It is my hope that you will find as much pleasure in wearing these clothes as I have had in making them.

Life is short – don’t be content to live in black and white when there are such beautiful colors in the world!

Please enjoy!
